Hello and welcome to the Hammonton High School Medical Information Page. Our program offers help from the following health professionals. We have a full time R.N. a part time Athletic Trainer and a part time MD (One hour/month). We are happy to help you any way we can. Parental input is an invaluable part of any program servicing children, please feel free to call us at 567-7000 (Ext.340).

The nurse helps students who become sick and injured during the school day, performs screening tests, assists in sports physicals, administers Tb Skin Tests, offers medically supervised Nebulizer Breathing Treatments and Insulin Injections, administers medications and maintains health records. With one nurse to nearly 1,600 students the nursing office is usually very busy. Generally there are about 1,000 problem oriented student visits each month. The nurse has guidelines for care within the school; none of the medical staff may function as a replacement family doctor. Children who become sick or injured at home should seek help from their medical providers.

The school doctor (medical inspector) performs physical exams and advises the school on medical issues. He also suggests program revisions to the administrative staff. The medical inspector provides the school with standing orders allowing the nurses to administer Maalox, Tylenol, Ibuprofen and topical (Cream) medications.

The Athletic Trainer is available beginning 10:30 AM. The trainer provides help to students who are involved in school sponsored sports. Our trainer offers programs to preventive sports injuries. The certified trainer also provides therapeutic treatments that are prescribed by the doctor. The treatments are similar to those provided by a physical therapist. If you would like to contact our Athletic Trainer you may call 567-7076.

Physical Education Excuses

Physical education is mandated by N.J. Law. If a student is sick or injured and has been advised not to participate in physical activity they will receive a “gym excuse”. The student must have a doctor’s note to be excused from gym. The paperwork for gym excuses is processed in the nurse’s office. If you are not able to see your doctor they may fax a note to 609-567-5985 attention to the School Nurse.
